Anmerkungen

  • Because of its hemolytic properties, this herb should not be given by injection; digestion neutralizes that effect.
  • A versatile herb with both tonifying and anti-inflammatory effects, used chiefly for Lung and skin conditions.
  • It tonifies Lung Qi and is included in formulas that nourish Lung Yin.
  • It is particularly effective for expelling pus from the Lung.
  • It lifts and directs the actions of other herbs upward.
  • It applies to Hot or Cold, acute or chronic conditions, whether or not Phlegm is present.
  • It has been found to inhibit cancer cell growth.
  • Jie Geng and Sm. Armeniacae Xing Ren both act at the Qi Level of the Lung channel: Jie Geng raises and disperses Lung Qi, benefits the throat and expels Phlegm, while Xing Ren descends Lung Qi, relieves cough and calms wheezing.
  • Jie Geng and Sm. Sterculiae Pang Da Hai both disperse Lung Qi, cool the Lung, resolve toxicity and benefit the throat, with Jie Geng the more potent of the two: it lifts Lung Qi, releases the Exterior, clears Phlegm and pus to benefit the throat, directs other herbs to the Upper Jiao and also treats dysenteric disorder with abdominal pain. Pang Da Hai is cooling and moistening, drains constrained Fire and is used specifically for throat disorders; it also moistens the Intestines and treats mild constipation and blood in the stool.
  • Dry-fried Platycodon Chao Jie Geng has a gentler acrid-dispersing action and less tendency to irritate the Stomach and cause nausea, making it well suited for elderly or weak patients with cough from Phlegm or thin mucus.
  • Honey-prepared Platycodon Mi Zhi Jie Geng is more moistening and tonifying, and is used for chronic dry cough from Lung Deficiency.
  • Charred Platycodon Jie Geng Tan treats dysenteric disorder with blood in the stool arising when Lung Heat transfers to the Large Intestine.
