Notas

  • This herb is an underground fungus growing among the roots of Pinus Longifolis; Fu Ling, also called Bai Fu Ling, is the fungus's white inner portion and relieves Dampness while tonifying the Spleen.
  • Poria Rubra Chi Fu Ling, the red layer lying between the white inner flesh and the skin, clears Dampness and Heat.
  • Cx. Poriae Cocos Fu Ling Pi is the skin of the fungus; it is a more potent diuretic and is used mainly for edema.
  • Poria Pararadicis Fu Shen, found wrapped around the tree's root, nourishes the Heart and calms the Shen; sweet and neutral, its dosage is 3-9g.
  • It also eases irritability that accompanies diarrhea.
  • It is said to benefit every organ.
  • It stimulates the appetite, stops hiccup, calms the mind and treats pulmonary flaccidity syndrome.
  • It is said to sharpen the mind and benefit intelligence.
  • It has demonstrated an ability to inhibit cancer cell growth.
  • It enhances macrophage phagocytic activity and promotes immunoglobulin formation.
  • As a neutral, bland diuretic it ranks among the most useful, since it combines with nearly any herb and suits nearly any patient.
  • The same species occurs in the U.S., where some Native Americans used it under the name "Indian bread".
  • It has both a diuretic and a tonic action, whereas Polyporus Zhu Ling is diuretic only.
  • Its tonic effect exceeds that of Sm. Coicis Yi Yi Ren.
  • Fu Ling and Sm. Coicis Yi Yi Ren both strengthen the Spleen and eliminate Dampness. Yi Yi Ren, being cold, can also clear Heat, treating Lung or Intestinal abscesses and Lung atrophy, and it clears Dampness at the level of bones, muscles and sinews as well. Fu Ling, neutral in nature, instead strengthens the Heart and Spleen and calms the Spirit.
  • Polyporus Zhu Ling has a stronger diuretic action than Fu Ling, yet Fu Ling also tonifies, and further harmonizes the Middle and calms the Spirit.
  • Fu Ling and Rz. Pinelliae Preparatum Zhi Ban Xia both expel Phlegm-Dampness: Fu Ling does so by strengthening the Spleen and expelling Dampness while transforming Phlegm, whereas Zhi Ban Xia dries and transforms Phlegm directly.
  • Dry-fried Poria Chao Fu Ling tonifies the Spleen more effectively.
  • Cinnabar Poria Zhu Fu Ling is more effective at calming the Spirit.
