Notes
- Overindulgence in meat, proteins, and fats causing Food Stagnation is the pattern this herb suits best.
- It is a key herb for transforming Stagnant Blood.
- It has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth.
- It moves into the Qi level to disperse constrained clumps of Phlegm.
- Its nature is notably mild and balanced.
- It boosts digestive juices and bodily Fluids.
- It stimulates appetite.
- It assists postpartum uterine contraction.
- It addresses epigastric distention, amenorrhea, hernial Qi pain, and chest Bi.
- For indigestion with abdominal pain, 10g of charred Shan Zha may be taken as a powder.
- Dry-frying it as Chao Shan Zha boosts its power to relieve Food Stagnation and clear obstruction, and adds an ability to check diarrhea from Spleen/Stomach obstruction caused by overeating.
- Prepared as Zhi Shan Zha, it avoids harming the Blood or the body's normal Qi.
- Charred into Shan Zha Tan, it transforms Stagnation more readily and stops bleeding, commonly applied to postpartum abdominal pain, prolonged lochia, and red dysenteric disorders.
- The leaf, Shan Zha Ye, promotes circulation, steadies Heart rhythm, lessens the frequency and severity of angina episodes, and guards elderly patients with influenza or pneumonia against cardiac complications; taken orally, the leaf extract eases chronic Heart conditions — chiefly congestive Heart failure, but also angina and arrhythmias — may lower Blood pressure, dilates the vessels feeding the Heart, and improves Blood flow.
- Shan Zha and Endothelium Corneum Gigeriae Galli (Ji Nei Jin) both strongly relieve Food Stagnation: Shan Zha clears blockage from excess meat consumption, moves Qi, and breaks up Blood Stasis, so it is used for amenorrhea, bulging disorders, and chest pain from obstructive Stagnation, whereas Ji Nei Jin addresses every type of Food Stagnation, strengthens the Stomach, stops enuresis, and dissolves stones.
