Mao Dong Qing, bitter and draining as well as acrid and dispersing, enters the Heart and Spleen; it is stronger at resolving toxicity, and also cools the Lungs, transforms Phlegm, and stops cough. Dan Shen, bitter and slightly cold, enters the Blood levels of the Liver, Heart, and Pericardium, invigorating the Blood, transforming Stasis, and both tonifying and cooling the Blood; it reduces swelling, relieves irritability, and is more suited than Mao Dong Qing to gynecological use.
