Anmerkungen
- Because most references omit an anti-cancer category, this herb appears under other headings instead — Bensky places it among external-application herbs, OHAI files it under Insecticide/Bactericide/Fungicide, and one source treats it as a Blood-Invigorating herb.
- Applied to the skin it produces redness and blistering; the blisters burst and heal, effectively eroding away the sore. The effect is strong but slow to begin, causes little pain, heals quickly, and usually leaves no scar — though on an open wound it can cause permanent damage.
- It exhibits antifungal activity.
- It stimulates the bone marrow to raise white blood cell counts.
- It shows an anti-tumor effect.
- Its action is intensely fast, reaching outward to mobilize the limb joints and inward to the organs, releasing clogging and Stasis, opening the Heart Orifices, and clearing Heat Stasis; it is used in emergencies for closed patterns.
- It governs abscesses and sores — the swelling of deep-lying toxic sores, scrofula, and all manner of noxious sores and stubborn skin disease.
- When pathogenic Qi lodges in the muscles and flesh and is constrained rather than released, it produces swollen, deep-seated noxious sores that must be resolved through sweating.
- Its effect on heart muscle resembles digitalis, though it acts faster, wears off sooner, and does not accumulate.
- For infantile malnutrition, abdominal masses, and pyogenic sores, it is said the herb can be burned to ash, mixed with dietary oil, and applied topically.
- Applied to a lesion, the skin draws out severe poison.
- For carbuncles and swellings: grind 3g Chan Su together with 3g Moschus She Xiang, mix with human milk, let dry in a container, then combine with a little liquid, apply to the area, and cover.
- It is said that all manner of skin disease can be treated with toad ash mixed in vinegar and applied topically three to five times daily.
