Manifestations
- Especially common among heavyset infants
- Chiefly affects the face, head and neck, with possible spread elsewhere
- The lesions show redness, papules and vesicles, along with heavy oozing
- With progression, crusting sets in and the itching intensifies, disrupting sleep.
- Typically dark red, the lesions occur on the face and neck and frequently the hands and feet, lacking sharply defined margins.
- The child's build tends to be thin and frail.
- Small lichenified lesions frequently develop thin white scaling, show evidence of itching, and may bleed slightly, though without oozing
- Pruritus
- Difficulty sleeping
- Such infants appear pale and eat poorly
- Other symptoms include constipation and urine that is scant and yellow; tongue: pale red, red, or with a red tip; coating: thin, white or yellow; pulse: rapid, or slippery and rapid
