Combinations

Notes

  • It has been compared to corticosteroids in effect.
  • It tonifies Jing and nourishes the marrow.
  • It calms and harmonizes the five Zang organs.
  • It sharpens mental capacity.
  • It has a specific application for disorders of the bones.
  • It is thought to have a mild Blood-augmenting effect.
  • It acts on the Kidney channel and Blood level, and on the Chong Channel.
  • Its moist nature makes it a valuable Kidney tonic.
  • Ba Ji Tian, Hb. Epimedii Yin Yang Huo, and Rz. Curculiginis Xian Mao all strengthen Kidney Yang, build the sinews and bones, and dispel Wind-Dampness. Xian Mao is the hottest and most acrid of the three and most forcefully expels Cold-Dampness, but its mild toxicity restricts it to short-term use. Ba Ji Tian is acrid, sweet, and only mildly warming, with a soft, moistening character that tonifies Yang without drying or cloying — it also augments Jing. Yin Yang Huo is warmer still, more strongly boosts Ming Men Fire, and more powerfully disperses Wind-Dampness while unblocking Bi.
  • Salt-processed Morinda Yan Ba Ji enters the Kidney channel more readily, augmenting primal Yang and replenishing Yin fluids; it suits impotence or spermatorrhea from Kidney Jing Deficiency.
  • Processed Morinda Zhi Ba Ji is milder, tonifying Fire without excessively drying Yin.
