Composition

  • Di LongPheretima4–15 g

    Drains Heat, settles convulsions, extinguishes Wind, unblocks and promotes movement in the channels and collaterals and stops spasms.

  • Tu Bie ChongEupolyphaga/Steleophaga1–1.5 g

    Breaks up and drives out Blood Stasis and invigorates Blood circulation.

  • Jiang CanBombyx Batryticatus1–3 g

    Extinguishes Wind and stops spasms and convulsions and stops pain.

  • Opens and moves Qi through the channels and collaterals
  • Halts spasming
  • Disperses and expels stagnant Blood
  • Energizes the movement of Blood

Manifestations

  • Abrupt, episodic burning sensations across the face
  • Pain that strikes suddenly during speech
  • Frequently triggered following contact with Wind
  • Occasionally rouses the patient from sleep
  • Severe pain that persists anywhere from a few seconds up to two minutes
  • The pain ends abruptly
  • Most commonly felt along the maxillary and mandibular divisions
  • The optic division is seldom affected
  • Occurs predominantly in those of middle age or beyond
  • More frequently found in females than males
  • Areas served by the optic branch include the forehead, nose, maxillary skin and eyes
  • The maxillary branch supplies the facial skin, upper lip, hard palate and maxillary sinus
  • The mandibular branch reaches the mandible, oral cavity, teeth, tongue and external ear

Neuralgia of the trigeminal nerve

Notes

Grind the ingredients into powder and fill 0.5 g gelatin capsules; four capsules are taken three times daily.
