Manifestations
- Lesions about the size of a coin — red, pale red, moist pale red, dark, or hyperpigmented — appearing on the scalp, body, limbs, and other sites, and multiplying quickly
- Scales cover the lesions, either tightly packed or piled up, and they are either readily shed with scratching or thick, firm, and adherent
- When the scale is removed, a light pink, shiny membrane is exposed, beneath which petechiae are found
- Lesions present for a long time may merge together
- Lesions may present with pain or with fissures
- The itching can be severe
