Associations

Notes

  • A decoction of Rz. et Rx. Rhei Da Huang, Rz. Coptidis Huang Lian, and Rx. Scutellariae Huang Qin may help ease toxic reactions.
  • It is the principal herb for treating cold in the Kidneys.
  • It is considered an aphrodisiac.
  • Used alone, it treats urinary incontinence and frequent urination.
  • It addresses Cold Qi in the epigastrium and abdomen with an inability to eat, Wind-Cold causing cramping and spasm in the lower back and knees, Damp-consumption in men, and incontinence in the elderly.
  • It strengthens the sexual organs and supports male sexual function.
  • It is also said to tonify the San Jiao.
  • Xian Mao, Hb. Epimedii Yin Yang Huo, and Rx. Morindae Ba Ji Tian each tonify Kidney Yang, strengthen the sinews and bones, and expel Wind-Dampness. Of the three, Xian Mao is the hottest and most acrid, with the strongest action on Cold-Dampness, but its mild toxicity limits it to short-term use. Ba Ji Tian, acrid, sweet and only mildly warming, has a soft, moistening quality that tonifies Yang without excessive dryness and also augments Jing. Yin Yang Huo is warmer still, more strongly builds Ming Men Fire, and is especially strong at dispersing Wind-Dampness and unblocking Bi.
  • Wine-fried Curculigo, Jiu Chao Xian Mao, is gentler and has an enhanced ability to tonify Kidney Yang and strengthen the sinews and bones.
