Notes

  • This herb lacks tonifying action, so it is paired with tonics when used.
  • Used by itself, it treats spermatorrhea or nocturnal emissions.
  • Jin Ying Zi and Fr. Corni Shan Zhu Yu are both sour, astringent herbs that conserve and stabilize the Lower Jiao, treating deficient leakage such as spermatorrhea, incontinence, and watery vaginal discharge. Shan Zhu Yu additionally tonifies Jing and Yang Qi strongly, all while retaining Jing, checking sweating, supporting collapse, and gently controlling menstrual bleeding. Jin Ying Zi, by contrast, only stabilizes and does not tonify — but it can treat chronic diarrhea, something Shan Zhu Yu cannot do.
  • Honey-prepared Cherokee Rosehip Mi Zhi Jin Ying Zi is sweet as well as astringent; it tonifies the Middle, astringes the Intestines, and treats Spleen Deficiency presenting as chronic diarrhea or dysenteric disorder.
  • Salt-prepared Cherokee Rosehip Yan Jin Ying Zi enters the Kidney channel more strongly, astringing Jing and urine and stopping vaginal discharge.
