  • Where this herb is stronger at invigorating the channels, Mo Yao is more effective at breaking up obstruction.
  • It is the resin obtained from the Boswellia Carteri (olive) tree.
  • It is highly useful for treating injured tissue that presents with swelling and pain.
  • It also finds use as an incense and as a deodorant.
  • Some sources credit this herb with controlling bleeding.
  • Ru Xiang and Myrrh Mo Yao share the ability to invigorate the Blood, disperse Stasis, relieve pain, reduce swelling and generate flesh. Ru Xiang is warm and sharply aromatic, is a powerful pain reliever that acts more on Qi, invigorates the Blood more forcefully and relaxes the sinews, while Mo Yao is neutral and bitter, breaks up Stagnation more powerfully, and drains and disperses Blood, acting more on the Blood itself.
  • Unprepared Frankincense Sheng Ru Xiang is generally reserved for external use.
  • Vinegar-prepared Frankincense Zhi Ru Xiang is gentler on digestion, tastes better, and is more effective at invigorating the Blood, relieving pain, restraining and inhibiting, and generating flesh. It acts particularly on the Liver channel and is often used for chest and flank pain, mobile or fixed abdominal masses, dysmenorrhea and amenorrhea.
