Notes

  • It particularly benefits ulcers that fail to heal, reducing swelling and hastening recovery.
  • It ranks among the most effective herbs for stopping gastrointestinal bleeding.
  • Used by itself, it addresses Lung Heat damaging the Yin.
  • As a topical powder, it treats external bleeding from cuts, chronic non-healing wounds, and chapped skin on the fingers, toes, or anus.
  • Bai Ji and Cacumen Platycladi Ce Bai Ye both check and stop bleeding, though Ce Bai Ye restrains less strongly than Bai Ji while surpassing it at expelling Phlegm and stopping cough.
  • Bai Ji, Hb. Agrimoniae Xian He Cao, and Fol. Callicarpae Formosanae Zi Zhu all restrain and check bleeding, ranked strongest to weakest as Bai Ji, Xian He Cao, then Zi Zhu; for cooling Heat the order reverses in part, with Zi Zhu strongest, Bai Ji next, and Xian He Cao weakest.
  • Bletilla Powder Bai Ji Fen (or Bai Ji Mo) is simpler to administer and can be used alone for hemoptysis from Lung Heat; taken orally as a powder, it is thought to stop bleeding more effectively than in decoction.
