Notas
- Treats leukopenia caused by radiation or chemotherapy.
- It can be made into an enriched syrup: boiled with polished rice and malt to form a malt-sugar syrup, then combined with Flos Carthami Hong Hua, Rx. Dipsaci Xu Duan, and black beans, also boiled until liquid. The resulting preparation is slightly sweet, aromatic, and warm, and has a stronger Blood-Tonifying and sinew-strengthening action; the dose is 4.5-9g, dissolved into a strained decoction.
- It is used for pain syndromes involving Cold and Blood Deficiency.
- It is generally used in debilitated patients.
- It has been shown to be effective at inhibiting the growth of cancer cells.
- Cooked into a paste with Flos Carthami Hong Hua, Rx. Angelicae Sinensis Dang Gui, and Fr. Oryzae Germinatus Gu Ya, it is regarded as a sacred remedy for Blood diseases.
- For malnutrition, Blood loss, and anemia, decoct 2kg of Ji Xue Teng with 800g sugar, filter, and add 100ml water before oral administration.
- Ji Xue Teng and Rx. Angelicae Sinensis Dang Gui both tonify and invigorate the Blood, stop pain, and regulate menstruation. Dang Gui tonifies and invigorates the Blood while also moistening the Intestines; Ji Xue Teng, by contrast, invigorates the Blood as its primary action and tonifies secondarily, and invigorates the collaterals and relaxes sinews to treat Wind-Damp Bi.
- Ji Xue Teng and Fr. Luffae Si Gua Luo share a harmonious, sweet nature, invigorating the collaterals and expelling Wind. Ji Xue Teng, slightly warm, enters the Blood to enrich it and invigorate the Blood within the collaterals, while Si Gua Luo promotes the smooth flow of Qi and Blood and transforms Phlegm within the collaterals.
- Caulis Sargentodoxae Hong Teng is sometimes substituted for Ji Xue Teng in certain parts of China; both activate Blood circulation, open the channels and collaterals, and relieve pain. However, Hong Teng treats intestinal abscess while Ji Xue Teng tonifies the Blood, so the two are not, in fact, close enough to interchange.
