Anmerkungen
- Extended use of this herb may promote weight loss.
- It can be consumed as a food to drain water or Dampness downward from the body.
- Some sources credit it with clearing Heat from the Heart.
- It has a downward-directing action and enters both the Qi and Blood levels.
- It reduces edema, resolves Summerheat, and relieves thirst, treating various forms of edema, Summerheat, and unquenchable thirst caused by Stomach Heat.
- Chi Xiao Dou, Sm. Phaseoli (Lu Dou) and Sm. Glycinis (Hei Dou) share several actions: they promote urination, clear edema, resolve toxicity, and address skin lesions, abdominal distention, Damp-Heat jaundice, and swellings or abscesses from Heat toxin. Chi Xiao Dou itself is sweet, sour, and neutral to slightly cool, entering the Heart and Small Intestine channels; at the Qi level it benefits the Stomach, clears Heat, and promotes urination, carrying pathogenic water or Summerheat out through the urine, and so treats edema, diarrhea or dysenteric disorders, and jaundice. It also acts at the Blood level, where it brings down Fire, moves the Blood, and reduces Heat toxin, treating boils, abscesses, and ulcerations caused by intense Heat toxin in the Blood; it may be given either internally or applied externally. Lu Dou, sweet and cool, enters the Heart and Stomach channels, cools Summerheat, and lessens toxic reactions to other herbs — it suits Heat Stroke and unquenchable thirst and is often paired with Rx. Glycyrrhizae (Gan Cao) as an antidote to poisoning, particularly from herbs; it suppresses Heat and resolves toxins more powerfully than Chi Xiao Dou does, and without drying. Hei Dou (Black Soybeans) is sweet and neutral, entering the Spleen and Kidney channels; it moves the Blood, promotes urination, expels Wind, and resolves toxicity, treating edema, relieving distention, bringing down rebellious Qi, controlling Wind-Heat, invigorating the Blood, and reducing toxicity. Paired with Rx. Glycyrrhizae it serves as an antidote for herbal poisoning generally, and together with other herbs it is often used for Wind-predominant Bi with spasms, postpartum convulsions, and swellings or abscesses from Heat toxin; it too may be used both externally and internally.
