Anmerkungen
- It is a key herb for Lung Qi Blockage and Stagnation.
- It treats excess-type disorders marked by copious, hard-to-expectorate sputum as well as wheezing.
- It is slightly warm, yet not drying.
- It is especially effective for rebellious Lung Qi accompanied by sensations of Heat, shortness of breath and weak legs.
- It also helps relieve tightness or hardness felt in the upper abdomen.
- Bai Qian's ability to bring down rebellious Qi from coughing resembles that of Rx. Ephedrae Ma Huang, though it is milder, and it can replace Ma Huang for weaker patients.
- Some sources describe it as moistening the Lungs and treating cough from Wind-Cold.
- It is excellent for Qi gathered in the throat with audible Phlegm; taken with wine, it addresses chronic cough that disturbs sleep, with rattling Phlegm in the throat and Qi surging upward as though breathing might stop.
- Bai Qian and Rx. Peucedani Qian Hu both excel at bringing down rebellious Qi and reducing profuse Phlegm, and both treat cough with heavy Phlegm from External Wind-Heat. Bai Qian, being slightly warm, suits accumulated Obstruction of Lung Qi with profuse Phlegm, throat rattling, chest oppression and acute wheezing, while Qian Hu clears Heat, releases the Exterior, disperses clumps and scatters Wind, treating cough with thick yellow Phlegm from Exterior Wind-Heat. The pair is used together so often that they are jointly called "the two Qian".
- Bai Qian and Fol. Eriobotryae Pi Pa Ye both bring down rebellious Lung Qi. Pi Pa Ye, being cooling and moistening, is best for dry cough or Phlegm that is difficult to expectorate, and also stops nausea. Bai Qian, warming and drying, is better suited to External Pathogenic Qi obstructing the Lungs, causing chest fullness and audible Phlegm in the throat.
- Tender Cynanchum Nen Bai Qian is the higher-quality form, with a stronger action for descending Qi and transforming Phlegm, though it tends to deplete Qi and injure the Spleen.
- Dry-fried Cynanchum Chao Bai Qian has somewhat moderated acrid, dispersing properties, protecting the Spleen, and suits chronic cough from Lung Deficiency with profuse Phlegm and rebellious Qi.
- Honey-prepared Cynanchum Mi Zhi Bai Qian moistens the Lungs and so no longer injures Qi or Yin, while retaining its ability to bring down Qi and transform Phlegm; it treats dry cough from Lung Yin Deficiency and is the preparation best suited to patients with Spleen and Stomach weakness.
- It has shown strong success in treating hives and other type I allergic conditions.
