Localisation

  1. 01Found between the spinous processes of the sixth and seventh thoracic vertebrae.
  2. 02On the midline of the back, in the hollow below the spinous process of the sixth thoracic vertebra.

Puncture

  1. 01Insert at a slant, angled slightly upward, 0.5 to 1 cun. This produces distention and soreness that can sometimes extend to the lower back or chest.
  2. 02Angle the needle obliquely upward, 0.5 to 1 cun.
  3. 03Caution: the spinal cord lies 1.25 to 1.75 cun beneath the skin surface, varying according to body type.
  4. 04Moxibustion may be used.
