Notes
- Taken alone as a juice, or blended with Ginger juice to temper its Cold nature.
- It keeps well for extended periods when stored in sealed containers.
- Some sources credit it with clearing Phlegm from the Heart and brain.
- For infantile convulsions accompanied by eye-rolling and foaming at the mouth, 3-6g is given twice daily.
- In epilepsy of the closed-disorder type caused by Phlegm, it is combined with herbs that clear Heat and restore consciousness.
- It mobilizes Phlegm throughout the body: driving it downward from the vertex, freeing it from the chest and diaphragm, dispersing it in the limbs, draining it out of the organs, channels and collaterals, and moving it from between the skin and membranes.
- It can be used to halt withdrawal mania and seizures.
- Zhu Li and Silicea Bambusae Concretio Tian Zhu Huang share similar actions. Zhu Li acts faster, entering the channels and collaterals directly; it is colder and more slippery, and it is centered on dislodging Phlegm and opening the Orifices. Tian Zhu Huang acts more slowly and instead calms the Spirit, controlling palpitations and anxiety.
