Notes
- Because most sources lack a dedicated anti-cancer category, this herb appears under different headings: Bensky classifies it among herbs for external application, OHAI places it under Insecticide, Bactericide and Fungicide, and other sources list it as a Blood-Invigorating herb.
- It irritates the skin, producing redness and blisters that burst and heal, essentially eroding the sore away.
- It produces blistering with a strong effect but slow onset; there is little pain, healing is rapid, and scarring is usually absent — though applied to an open wound it can cause irreversible damage.
- Combined with garlic, it can be applied topically to sores, carbuncles and furuncles.
- It exerts an anti-tumor effect.
- It causes cancerous tissue to break down and decay.
- It is reported effective for esophageal, gastric, Liver, cardiac, Lung and breast cancers.
- It is used internally for Liver or gastrointestinal cancer.
- For gastric and esophageal cancers and cervical lymphosarcoma, it is ground to a powder and applied to ST-36 to raise a blister, while one insect and an egg are simultaneously steamed and taken three times daily.
- One source states it can induce abortion.
- It is said to treat hernial disorders.
- It is also used for facial paralysis, Bi syndrome, alopecia areata, urolithiasis and verruca warts.
- For warts, nevi and melanoma, three Ban Mao, 15g of polished glutinous rice and one garlic clove are pounded together and applied topically to the lesion.
- For furuncles and swelling, crushed Ban Mao is applied to the lesion while it is scratched with a needle.
- Combined with chemotherapy, this substance can help control leukopenia in leukemia patients.
- Mylabris, Ban Mao, attacks toxicity and erodes putrefaction and is highly toxic; Lithargyrum, Mi Tuo Seng, is acrid, salty and neutral, and can kill parasites, reduce swelling, astringe urine and generate flesh, excelling at treating Damp-type tinea and sweat-induced skin eruptions.
- Despite its toxicity, it is an important remedy for serious conditions such as carcinomas, viral and fungal infections, leukocyte Deficiency, and reproductive problems including sterility and impotence.
- Ban Mao plaster is used around the world and is regarded as the most effective and widely used counterirritant known.
- Rice Mylabris, Mi Ban Mao, is less toxic and more palatable, allowing internal use to unblock menstruation and break up both mobile and fixed masses.
