Manifestations

  • Coin-sized red macules on the scalp, trunk, limbs and elsewhere, spreading quickly in number
  • A layer of scale covers them
  • Beneath the scale, once lifted, lies a shiny, pale pink membrane
  • Worst in the summer months
  • In chronic cases it may appear at any time of year
  • Petechiae lie under the membrane
  • Healing occurs without leaving scars
  • The nail plate may be affected, showing stippling or pitting.
  • Occasionally appears as widespread skin redness topped with fine scaling
  • Pruritus can be severe
  • Dislike of Heat
  • Agitation
  • Feeling thirsty
  • Stools that are dry
  • Urine that is scant and yellow
