  • It is said to tonify both Yin and Yang.
  • It has been shown to suppress cancer-cell growth.
  • It is effective for hectic fever from Yin Deficiency, night sweats, low back pain, sore knees, and a weak constitution with seminal emission.
  • Both Zi He Che and Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum Lu Rong strongly tonify Kidney Yang along with Jing and Blood, but Zi He Che is warm without being drying, acting as a gentle, harmonizing tonic; it surpasses Lu Rong in augmenting Qi and Blood, treats Lung, Liver, and Kidney Deficiency, and promotes lactation in a way Lu Rong cannot. Lu Rong, conversely, more powerfully tonifies Kidney Yang and the Du Channel and strengthens the sinews and bones.
  • Prepared Placenta, Zhi Zi He Che, has a milder taste and remains stable over a longer period.
  • Wine-fried Placenta, Jiu Chao Zi He Che, likewise has a milder taste and is easier to grind into powder.
  • Human placenta is generally avoided for various reasons, with pig or cattle placenta used as a substitute.
  • Corda Umbilicalis Hominis, Qi Dai, is the umbilical cord; it treats wheezing and night sweats caused by Kidney Yang and Jing Deficiency, and is often decocted together with Flos Lonicerae Jin Yin Hua and Rx. Glycyrrhizae Gan Cao in grain liquor.
