Notas

  • Qi movement is powerfully promoted by this herb, though its analgesic effect is weak.
  • It is particularly well suited to persistent coughing accompanied by chest pain.
  • Since it transforms Phlegm only weakly, it is unsuitable for the early stage of an externally contracted cough.
  • Though warm, it does not dry.
  • The flower, Flos Citri Sarcodactylis Fo Shou Hua, shares similar but gentler properties; it descends Lung Qi more effectively and is frequently chosen for cough and wheezing arising from rebellious Lung Qi, being regarded as more effective for emphysema. Its dosage is 3-9g.
  • Under the alternate name Citrus Wilsonii Xiang Yuan, emphasis falls on the Spleen and Lung, addressing distention, pain and fullness of the chest, ribs, abdomen and epigastrium.
  • Finger Citron Fruit Dew Fo Shou Lu, the distilled fluid, awakens the Spleen, eases Liver constraint, frees the flow of Qi, opens the Stomach and restores a normal appetite; it may be drunk as a tea or added into other decoctions.
