Anmerkungen

  • When thick, greasy, foul, turbid Phlegm accumulates in the Intestines or Stomach, Zao Jiao scours and flushes it out, leaving the Stomach and Intestines clear.
  • This herb treats chronic bronchitis, coma, fainting, Phlegm-related sleep disturbance, Windstroke, tetanus, and convulsions caused by infection.
  • Zao Jiao and Rz. Arisaematis Preparatum Zhi Tian Nan Xing are both acrid, warm and forceful, effective at dislodging Phlegm, and are combined for profuse Phlegm surging upward with a clenched jaw and speech loss in Wind-Stroke, seizures and withdrawal mania. Zao Jiao is better at opening the jaw and the Orifices and moistening the Intestines, while Zhi Tian Nan Xing also expels Wind and frees the collaterals, making it better for profuse Phlegm with Internal Wind, or for Phlegm obstructing the channels and collaterals and causing limb numbness.
  • Gleditsia Seeds, Zao Jiao Ci, are acrid, warm and moistening, best suited to moistening the Intestines for Dryness-related constipation, hemorrhoids, Intestinal Wind with bleeding, tinea, or dysenteric disorders with tenesmus; the dosage is 3-9g.
  • Pig-Tooth Gleditsia, Zhu Ya Zao, comes from infertile, aged or damaged pods; it opens the Orifices more forcefully and excels for lockjaw, and is the most commonly used form.
