Anmerkungen

  • It is both astringent and able to break up Blood Stagnation, so it stops bleeding without causing Stasis.
  • It is typically used for bleeding due to Lung and Stomach Heat.
  • It is a mild herb, generally serving an adjunctive role.
  • Its fresh juice can be used to treat hematemesis
  • For epistaxis, drip the fresh juice into the nostrils.
  • Ou Jie and Petiolus Trachycarpi (Zong Lu Pi) both astringe to stop bleeding. Ou Jie, sweet and astringent, stops bleeding and reduces Blood Stasis, and cools Blood Heat when used fresh. Zong Lu Pi, bitter and astringent, binds and restrains more strongly than Ou Jie and is used mainly for bleeding unrelated to Blood Stasis; it also dries Dampness, making it suitable for vaginal discharge.
  • Fresh Lotus Nodes (Xian Ou Jie) are cooling, making them best for bleeding from Blood Heat; the fresh juice alone is often used for epistaxis and hemoptysis.
  • Charred Lotus Nodes (Ou Jie Tan) are more effective at stopping bleeding but less able to dispel Stasis; being slightly warming, they can be used for bleeding in Yang Deficiency patients.
