Localisation
- 011.5 cun lateral to the lower tip of the sixth thoracic vertebra's spinous process.
- 021.5 cun lateral to DU-10 Lingtai, level with the lower edge of the sixth thoracic vertebra's spinous process; find it at the highest visible point of the paraspinal muscles.
Puncture
- 01Angle the needle toward the spine, 0.7–1 cun; expect local distention and soreness that may extend to the ribs and chest.
- 02Insert obliquely, 0.5–0.7 cun.
- 03Moxibustion may be used.
- 04Angle the needle toward the spine, 0.5–1 cun.
- 05Insert transversely-obliquely, 1–1.5 cun.
- 06Caution: needling straight in, or obliquely away from the spine, risks pneumothorax.
