Localisation

  1. 013 cun directly inferior to SJ-14 Jianliao, at the posterior border of the deltoid muscle.
  2. 02On the upper arm along the line between SJ-10 Tianjing and SJ-14 Jianliao, 4 cun proximal to SJ-10 Tianjing and 6 cun distal to SJ-14 Jianliao. Note: this lies in the depression within the triceps, posterior to the humeral shaft, between the bellies of its long and lateral heads. Although most sources also give a distance of 3 cun directly below SJ-14 Jianliao at the posterior deltoid border, this does not usually match; in practice, palpate the area for the most tender spot.
  3. 03On the line connecting SJ-14 Jianliao and the olecranon, at the posterior border of the m. deltoideus.

Puncture

  1. 01Insert straight, 1 to 1.5 cun.
  2. 02Insert perpendicularly or obliquely, 1 to 2 cun.
  3. 03Needle straight in, 0.5 to 0.8 cun.
  4. 04Moxibustion may be used.
