Localisation

  1. 011 cun to the side of REN-24 Chengjiang, directly beneath ST-4 Dicang, where the mental foramen of the mandible can be palpated.
  2. 021 cun lateral to REN-24 Chengjiang, directly over the mental foramen.

Puncture

  1. 01Insert straight, 0.2–0.5 cun deep, producing local distention and soreness.
  2. 02For trigeminal neuralgia, locate the mandible's mental foramen, then insert obliquely downward and medially, 0.5 cun deep, producing an electric, numb sensation extending to the lower lip.
  3. 03Insert perpendicular-obliquely, medially and downward into the mental foramen, 0.3–0.5 cun deep.
  4. 04Insert transversely, 0.5–1.5 cun deep.
  5. 05Puncture obliquely, 0.5–1 cun deep.
