Localisation

  1. 01On the tibia's medial surface midline, 5 cun proximal to the tip of the medial malleolus.
  2. 025 cun above the medial malleolus's highest point, along the tibia's medial border.
  3. 035 cun proximal to the ankle's medial malleolus, in the groove between the tibia's posterior border and the gastrocnemius muscle.
  4. 045 cun above the medial malleolus's prominence, just behind the tibia's medial crest, in the hollow between that crest and the gastrocnemius. Note: split the span from the medial malleolus's tip to the popliteal crease into three equal parts — the point sits where the distal third meets the proximal two-thirds.

Puncture

  1. 01Needle subcutaneously, 0.3 to 0.5 cun.
  2. 02Moxibustion may be used.
  3. 03Insert perpendicularly along the tibia's posterior border, 0.5 to 1 cun, producing local distention and soreness.
  4. 04For trunk disorders, angle the insertion upward along the tibia's posterior border, 1.5 to 2 cun; once Qi is obtained, apply strong stimulation briefly, which may produce distention and soreness reaching as far as the genitals.
  5. 05Insert perpendicularly, 0.5 to 1 cun.
  6. 06Insert obliquely, directed proximally toward the abdomen, 1 to 2 cun.
