Notes
- Hb. Visci Hu Ji Sheng and Hb. Taxilli Sang Ji Sheng are frequently substituted for one another: both dispel Wind-Dampness, tonify the Liver and Kidneys, strengthen the tendons and bones, and calm the fetus, and both address Wind-Damp Bi, lower back and leg pain and weakness, sinew-and-bone weakness, and restless fetus patterns. That said, Hu Ji Sheng has the stronger action for dispelling Wind-Dampness and sees more use for Bi Syndrome, whereas Sang Ji Sheng more strongly tonifies the Liver and Kidneys and stabilizes the Chong and Ren channels.
- Hu Ji Sheng carries mild toxicity; possible side effects include general malaise, nausea, vomiting, diffuse pain in the right hypochondrium, drowsiness, eye irritation, ataxia, and seizures.
- This herb grows as a parasite on various deciduous trees.
