Notes

  • He Huan Hua and Cx. Albizziae He Huan Pi are both sweet and neutral, tonifying the Heart and Spleen, relieving constraint, and calming the Spirit; He Huan Pi is somewhat more effective at invigorating the Blood, stopping pain, and reducing swelling, while He Huan Hua moves Liver Qi and is better suited to soothing the Liver, unbinding the Stomach, aiding memory and sleep, and brightening the eyes.
  • He Huan Hua and Flos Rosae Rugosae Mei Gui Hua both regulate Qi, relieve Stagnation, and invigorate the collaterals, treating collateral Stagnation caused by Qi Stagnation or Liver Qi Stagnation. He Huan Hua is sweet and neutral, acting at the Qi level of the Heart and Spleen channels to strongly calm the Shen and nourish the Heart and Spleen, whereas Mei Gui Hua is sweet, slightly bitter, and warm, acting on the Liver and Spleen channels at the Blood level, with a stronger effect on regulating Qi and clearing Blood Stagnation.
  • He Huan Hua, Caulis Polygoni Multiflori Ye Jiao Teng, and Sm. Platycladi Bai Zi Ren all address insomnia: He Huan Hua is best suited to insomnia from Liver Qi Stagnation, Ye Jiao Teng to insomnia from general Blood Deficiency, and Bai Zi Ren to insomnia from Heart Deficiency.
